However, with the new innovations in floating floors, vinyl is quickly gaining steam in the popularity contest once again. So what is the right option: vinyl or laminate? That depends on the situation, and we will explain.
Vinyl Vs. Laminate
Laminate’s popularity grew rather quickly in the flooring world thanks to its distinct ability to replicate more expensive surfaces, like hardwood and natural stone. Customers could now give a visual sense of sophistication within their home at a cheaper price.

Vinyl flooring, when installed properly, will prevent any water from making it’s way to the padding and subfloor and will not warp or change shape or appearance in any way.
Now if you’re looking to imitate a classic hardwood look or stone or tile for your living room or bedrooms, then laminate is a great option. You get the look you are going for, and chances are it won’t have to deal with standing water or moisture.
And finally, the kitchen is somewhat of a draw. If you believe you will wipe up spills and messes quickly, then you should be fine with laminate. But if you want to play it on the safe side and feel that some standing water may occur, then vinyl is a great option.
