Well, it’s officially Spring, and hopefully the rumor is true that April showers brings May flowers.
But Spring, for many, brings a different perspective, and that’s the allergy season. Every year, the ground unthaws and the plants begin to bloom, bringing out pollen and many other allergens.
While many believe allergies are mostly outside, you’d be surprised how much these allergens are thriving in your home, and more specifically, within your carpet. So here’s a list of how proper cleaning of your carpet can help limit the allergens within your home.
Hidden Pollutants
At first glance, you might look at your carpet and think, “Wow, my carpet looks spotless!” However, if you’re not properly cleaning your carpet, then you’re most likely mistaken. Dirty carpet can have unnoticeable contaminants, such as pet dander and everyday dirt and dust. You might think by vacuuming you are ridding your carpet of these pesky allergens, but in reality, you’re only releasing them back into the air. Proper cleaning of your carpet will help you avoid this situation.
Little Critters
You might not even realize it, but your home right now could be a victim of dust mite infestations. These little critters are microscopic, so you wouldn’t even notice them right under your feet. Dust mites alone are allergens, and because of their size, they are easily inhaled. Again, proper cleaning of your carpets can minimize these little guys from making your carpet their home planet. Steam cleaning is always a great option because dust mites are unable to survive the high temperatures, but be sure to consult a professional before doing this yourself.
Mold
While winter brings dry air, spring begins to make a transition to moist air, and moisture can lead to mold. Not to mention, the amount of water that will be tracked in from those April showers. Of course, try and limit the amount of moisture from tracking in water as much as possible, but there will be times that a little moisture will make its way to your carpet. Be quick to react and soak up the water as much as possible. Proper care and cleaning of your carpet are sure to keep it mold free!
Are You Ready For Spring?
Obviously we can’t control the allergens outside. Mother nature has a firm grasp on that, but controlling the allergens within your home is up to you.
