So you’ve got your new floor selected and are expecting the installers to arrive in a few days. The excitement level is at an all time high as you anticipate a new look and style to your home.
But is your home ready for the installation process? Countless times homeowners are not prepared for when the installers come, so we decided to create a nice checklist of what you can do to help the process move smoother for the installers. So here they are:
1. Remove Old Flooring – Be sure yourself or a professional has your previous floors removed if it’s necessary with the new flooring that is coming in. This is a vital step in the process in order to allow the installers to get started right away.
2. Finish Prior Projects: A lot of times when customers purchase new flooring, it’s not the only project going on in the house. For example, if you are painting the walls, be sure to have that project finished before bringing in the new floor. There’s nothing worse than having your new floor installed only to welcome it with a few splats of fresh paint.
3. Protect Your Valuables: The installation process requires the entire space that is getting new a floor, so if you’ve got valuables that could fall and break, be sure to move them to another room to ensure nothing is damaged throughout the process.
4. Electronics Need To Go: Any type of electrical device should be unplugged from the wall and moved to a different room during the process. Not only do you not want your electrical devices to become damaged, but many times, the installers will need access to the electrical outlets within the room.
5. Check Hinged Doors: Many times customers don’t realize that there new floor may come up a little higher than their previous floor, so take a quick look at the bottom of your doors and be sure there is enough room for the floor to slide underneath. Sometimes trimming of the door is required.
6. Inspect & Vent: Once the floor is installed, be sure to give it a quick look before the installers leave in case there is something you notice that needs fixed. And, of course, be sure to allow proper ventilation of the room before placing furniture back in the room.
Follow these steps and you will provide professional installers, or yourself, the proper necessities to easily install your new floor. A great way of preparing for the installation process is to take a step back, view the entire room and look for anything that could possibly interfere with the process.
