Hardwood floors can add a style of elegance and sophistication to your home. When guests enter your home, your hardwood floors are a warm welcome.
But there’s nothing more annoying than a giant scratch or chip in your hardwood floors, and many times those blemishes come from it’s counterpart: the furniture.
So how can you avoid scratches to your hardwood floors with all that furniture throughout the home? Here’s a few tricks that we use.
Furniture Pads
This should be a go-to strategy on all furniture that is resting on your beautiful hardwood floors. Felt or cork pads are a great way to rearrange the furniture in your room, and it actually makes it easier to slide your furniture, rather than having to pick it up and move it.
Area Rugs
Even if you have a layout in your living room that you don’t ever plan on rearranging, that doesn’t mean you still can’t get scratches from your furniture. Think about every time you sit down on your couch or a kitchen chair. The legs are going to shift back and forth every time someone moves or sits down, so by placing an area rug under the legs, this can prevent scratching.
Re-coat
If you’ve got a nice finish on your hardwood floors, the proper re-coating can add a nice, shiny protective layer. Always check with a professional on advice as to how often you should be re-coating your floors.
Take Your Time
The biggest cause of scratches to a hardwood floor typically occurs during rearrangement, so take your time. Give yourself plenty of time and NEVER drag your furniture without some time of padding underneath the legs.
If you follow these simple steps, you are sure to increase the longevity of your hardwood floors.
