When installing a new hardwood floor, you want to make sure you take the proper preparation steps. Otherwise, you could create a huge mess and make things much more difficult on the professional installers.
Here are some steps to help you get ready for your floor installation.
Make Sure the Room(s) is Clear
This may seem obvious but it’s a big prep step. Remove all the furniture from the room and anything that may get in the way such as long curtains and especially delicate items. Having this done before the installers come will save time and help professionals who are installing your flooring.
Seal off the Rooms
Tearing up, sanding and adding in a new floor will certainly stir up any dust and debris in your home. So make sure you are taking the proper steps to prevent this dust and debris from entering the rest of your home. Cover the doorways with some plastic and masking tape, but be sure you’re leaving entrances and exits so it’s easy for the installers to make their way in and out of the room.
Remove Doors
Floor installers will need to remove doors to make it easier to install the floor. To save time, remove the doors yourself if you’re comfortable enough doing it prior to the arrival of the installers. If you’re removing more than 1 door, lay a blanket between each door to prevent any damage while stacking.
Make Some Room
Installers will come with an arsenal of equipment, so help them out by clearing a space either outside or in the garage (in case of rain) so they can easily cut the wood and store their equipment. Also make sure they have access to a 220 volt outlet as well.
Floor installation can be a stressful process, but by preparing for it, the process will go much more smoothly and quickly for you and the installers.
