If you’re on the search for some new, modern flooring, you’ve probably heard the term ‘floating floor’ once or twice. A floating floor isn’t a type of flooring, but more a description of a floor that doesn’t attach to the underlying original floor.
When you think of traditional flooring, such as hardwood or ceramic tile, these types of flooring are required to be attached to the underlying flooring, whether it is nailed, glued or secured in some other way. Floating floors, on the other hand, are completely free from the underlying floor and come in all types of styles. Here are a few examples:
- -Laminate
- -Luxury Vinyl Flooring
- -Engineered Hardwood
So why go with a floating floor?
A floating floor has many advantages. One advantage of a floating floor is the ability to remove it much easier when you want to change the floor. Since the floor isn’t glued or nailed, it can be easily removed which saves time and makes less of a mess.
Also, you don’t have to worry about your floating floor moving on you. Just because it’s not secured to the underlying floor doesn’t mean it will move or shift. The combination of the sheer weight along with the friction between the flooring planks and the underlying floor will hold your floating floor perfectly in place.
Another great advantage is your floating floor has room to expand and contract in response to a room’s change in temperature and humidity. This is a result of your floor floating and not being secured the underlying floor.
There’s many options to choose from when it comes to floating floors. Floating floors can replicate nearly anything, from hardwood to tile. If you’d like to learn more, we’d be happy to help, so stop in or give us a call.
