Whether you’re tearing out or putting in some new flooring, chances are you’re going to have some extra pieces lying around when it’s all said and done. Rather than tossing those extra pieces to the curb, there are some great ways to reuse them. Here’s a few flooring types you can reuse.
Wood
This is one of the most widely reused styles of flooring. We’ve seen many different uses for old hardwood. If you feel like discovering your inner Geppetto, use that old hardwood to make some new furniture. If the hardwood is damaged, you can always sand and refinish to use on new projects. Or even create some new picture frames. Hardwood has endless beauty that can be used on many different projects.
Carpeting
Reusing carpeting is also a favorite. If you’ve got carpeting that is well past its days with lingering stains and tears, then use them in places that are to meant to be dirty. Use them as throw rugs in the garage or place them outside to collect dirt and debris before it makes its way into your home.
If your carpeting still has years left on it, use them as welcome mats in your home. You can also contact local schools and see if they have any need. We constantly have teachers asking for carpet remnants to be used as place mats for children to sit on during story time and other activities.
Vinyl
Old vinyl is a great option to reuse simply because of its ability to resist liquids and is very easy to clean. The best parts of the vinyl can be used in areas that collect moisture, such as cupboards, shelves or areas in the bathroom. There’s nothing more frustrating than seeing your nice hardwood cupboards warped because of standing water from dishes. Prevent this from happening by placing some old vinyl to catch the water.
All flooring styles can be reused one way or another. You just have to think a little before tossing it out. We are confident that your old flooring can either be used by yourself or someone else.
