Deciding on the right carpet for your home comes with quite a few questions. The style, color, pattern, thickness, etc. So instead of focusing on all the questions at one, we will focus this article on the color.
So let’s take a look at what you need to consider before deciding on your color choice for your carpet.
Surrounding Environment
Take a quick look around the room and consider what your carpet is going to contrast with. Chances are you’ve already got a color scheme for your room, or are hoping to create a new color scheme. Are you getting new furniture, repainting, or changing draperies? All of these colors need to be taken into consideration when choosing the color of your carpeting.
Lighting
Always keep in mind the lighting within the room you are placing new carpet. Does the room receive plenty of natural light, or does the room require multiple lights? Perhaps if the room does not receive much natural light, then a dark carpet might not be the best choice, unless, of course, you’re going for that dark feeling within the room. When selecting your carpet, take a sample home and look at it in various places around the room, so you can get an idea of how it will look in the environment it will be installed.
Transitions
Always be sure your new carpeting will get along with the rest of your home, especially the connecting rooms. You don’t want a crazy, retro carpeting transitioning to something that is contemporary. The 80’s aren’t meant to mix with 2016.
Purpose
What is the purpose of your room? Are you going to be having friends over quite often to watch the game, or is it a kids play room? These all need to be considered. Also, are you purchasing carpet for a renovation? If you’re purchasing carpet for a house you plan to sell, it’s best to stick with something neutral, simply because you don’t know what a possible buyer will prefer. Staying neutral keeps you on the safe side when selling a home.
Purchasing carpeting is a big decision. The last thing you want to do is purchase your carpet, have it installed only to be turned off every time you see it. If you have any questions, we will be more than happy to assist you on your next carpet selection.
