Carpet padding can be a little tricky because it’s not one type fits all. So here’s some things to consider when choosing your carpet padding.
Some people believe that the thicker the pad, the better it will be. This, however, can be a costly mistake. Installing padding that is too thick can create wrinkles in the carpet which will have to be professionally removed.
Apartments: The density for padding in an apartment is lower than for residential spaces. A density between 3 to 5 pounds is typical for an apartment. It’s cheaper, but it will also have to be replaced more often.
Residential: Padding densities for residential properties are usually between 6 and 10. The lower the number, the softer the carpet will feel, however a density of around 8 will last longer because it is more firm and can handle foot traffic over a longer period of time.
To find the correct padding, it is important you get the requirements for your carpet from the manufacturer. The grade of the carpet must match the grade of the padding. As always, you can contact us and we can provide with our best recommendation on the proper padding for your carpet.
