Choosing the right floor for your home is a big decision. It’s one of the first things people will notice when walking into this particular room and it’s what they will feel under their feet.
And choosing the color or design isn’t a simple choice, which is a good thing, of course, because that means you have lots of options to choose from. So the question is, “What’s the right color or design for my home?” So before you go selecting your floor, here’s some steps to make sure you like what you are getting.
- First visit a professional and bring a photo or something like a pillow or paint chip along with you. Sometimes it’s difficult to envision the room you are shopping for without having some type of visual representation with you. This makes it much easier to match up the color of your room with colors and designs you will be viewing at the store.
- Take home a few flooring samples to match up with the rest of the room. Again, if you’re unsure about what color or design you want to go with, it’s always best to get a live visual representation rather than trying to visualize it in your head. Also, it’s best to try and limit how many flooring samples you bring home. Select maybe 3 or 4 that you like and go from there. Taking too many may complicate the situation.
- Once you got it narrowed down to 1 or 2 selections, be sure to look at the samples in the different environments. Your flooring sample may look one way during the day with the natural light compared to what it looks like under the lights at night. Also be sure to put your samples up against your base boards. This is a big one, because it’s where your flooring first makes contact with your walls. You might like the look of the floor with the rest of the decor in this particular room, but you might not like how it transitions with the base boards.
These are only a few of the little tricks you can do to get started on your flooring decision journey. Again, there’s so many options now days that you might come in with one idea in your head and leave with something completely different. If you have any questions, we are only a phone call away.
