An area rug can accentuate any room in the house, whether it’s the bathroom or the living room. They can be moved around, go from room to room or remain in one room the entirety of its life.
But that doesn’t mean all throw rugs fit all rooms. So how do you decide on the right area rug for your home? Here’s a few things to keep in mind when deciding.
Measure!!!
Countless times we’ve had customers stop in looking for an area rug, but don’t know the measurements of where the rug is going to be placed. This should be the first thing you do when selecting an area rug. Try to envision the rug in the location you select and then measure it out. This will save a lot of time and hassle before heading out to purchase your rug.
Take a look around
Know the the colors and patterns of your room before selecting a rug. You don’t want to get to the store and then try to remember what your living room or kitchen looks like. Maybe even snap a few photos of the room that will become the new home to your area rug.
You also want to consider whether or not the area rug is going to the be the focal point of the room. Perhaps you have a fireplace, and the rug isn’t the focal point. If that’s the case, then maybe you want to go with something neutral that won’t draw your attention from the fireplace.
Consider the texture
There’s all types of fibers to consider when selecting an area rug. Are you looking for something that will endure through heavy traffic on a daily basis? If that’s the case, then perhaps a lower pile rug is a better choice. Also keep in mind that area rugs will need to be cleaned, so again, make a decision based on the amount of traffic the rug will encounter on a daily basis.
Outdoor Rugs
Not all rugs have the luxury of living indoors their entire life. Some will be placed on patios or porches, and it’s best buy something that can endure through the harsh weather conditions. Synthetic rugs are always a good choice because they are typically easy to hose down and dry quickly. They are also light weight and easy to roll up and move around.
So what’s the right choice?!?
Unfortunately with flooring, there really never is one right or wrong answer. There’s too many variables and styles of rugs out there to narrow it down to one answer. But if you stick to these basic tips, chances are you will land yourself on a good choice that will accentuate any room.
