There are many decisions when it comes to selecting the right type of wood flooring for your home’s decor. But if chosen correctly, your new wood floor can add an elegant, upscale look to your home.
Let’s take a look at some of the options we provide.
Strip
You will typically find the width of strip flooring to be less than 3 inches. These are narrower boards that give off a contemporary, linear effect. They have an elongated look, which can help a smaller room appear more spacious and open. If you have a smaller room where wider strips might not fit, strip wood flooring is a great option.
Plank
Plank wood flooring is quite the opposite, typically ranging anywhere between 3 to 8 inches in width. Wide plank flooring can make for a cleaner, more cohesive look by using fewer seems.
Wide planks can also present the natural beauty of the hardwood with its ability to capture and present the knots and grain of the wood.
Solid
Solid hardwood is a single piece of wood, which means it typically expands and contracts with changes in your home’s relative humidity. Installers will normally compensate for this change in size by leaving an expansion gap between the boards and the wall to make room, where base molding can be used to hide the gap.
Engineered
Unlike solid, engineered is constructed from 3 to 5 layers of hardwood to make one piece. As a result of using several layers, engineered wood is less likely to be affected by the changes in humidity within your home.
While these are only a few considerations when deciding on your new hardwood floors, these are important considerations. The choice you make on your hardwood floor will affect the look, style, maintenance, etc. Although only you can make the choice, we are here to steer you in the right direction.
