Well we are officially over a month into 2015, so we figured what better time to talk about some new flooring trends we are seeing so far this year. It’s difficult to keep up with what’s happening with interior design trends these days, so the least we could do is keep you up to date with the flooring world. So without further ado, here’s some new trends that are hitting the floor (no pun intended).
Whiten It Up!!
One of the new trends that is starting to pick up speed is the whitewashed look, specifically with hardwood. Not only does the whitewashed look lighten up the room, but it has the ability to open up space, making a much smaller room appear to be larger. You will probably start seeing these types of floors popping up in people’s bedrooms or office spaces.
Going Bold With Carpet
For a long time, carpeting trends favored a simplistic trend with only one color pattern. But we are starting to see a change with how manufacturers are becoming more creative with their designs. And customers are certainly responding to these changes.
More often you are seeing customers looking for carpeting with a bold design that allows the carpet to become the focal point of the house instead of a complimentary item. We are also beginning to see carpets that are two-toned as well. So if you’ve been itching to try out a new, bold pattern with your carpeting, now is the time to get on that band wagon.
Bigger the Better
Another new trend that is starting to pick up is the desire for bigger tiles. More and more customers are opting to try oversized tiles that create a more seamless appearance. Some customers are going as big as 12” x 36” tiles, which also requires less grout and is easier to clean. Keep in mind, tiles this big are heavy, so if you’re opting to go this route, be sure to hire a professional for the heavy lifting.
Wider and Longer
When it comes to the hardwood flooring, the trends move at lightning speed. And the new one we are seeing is the need for longer and wider planks. Many planks are now available as long as 6 feet. Customers are finding out that longer, wider planks create a feeling of open space and make rooms appear much larger. This is an overall appeal that we are seeing with all types of flooring.
Dont Be Afraid to Explore
So that’s our list of new things that we see popping up in the new year. Obviously there are many other trends that people are trying out. Don’t be afraid to try some new ideas as well, and as always, we are only a phone call away with some tips and recommendations.
