The dog days of summer have hit us hard up here in the Great Lakes state. While we always welcome the warmer temperatures, our floors may feel differently. Whether you have carpeting or hardwood, the direct sunlight through your windows create a fading effect, which we of course want to avoid. Here’s a few tips to keep your floors safe this summer.
Even Aging
Your floors, along with the rest of your decor, are going to age. There’s no stopping that. You can, however, make sure everything in your room’s decor ages evenly. Try switching around your decor to make sure everything in your room gets an even amount of sunlight. If you’ve got a section of your floor that endures through countless hours of sunlight during the day, try placing a piece of furniture or even an indoor plant on that section to reduce the likelihood of any fading. This will help it age the same as the rest of the flooring.
Put Some Sunglasses On Your Windows
Ok, don’t literally put sunglasses on your windows. Similarly, you can, however, get window treatments on your windows that will limit the amount of UV exposure to your floors. Often there are sections of your flooring that simply can’t be hidden from the sun exposure, so window treatments are a perfection option.
If you don’t want to go with window treatments, then simply purchase some curtains that can shield the sun during those peak hours. And for those who want to allow the natural light into their homes but still protect their floors, try some horizontal window slats. Simply angle the slats upwards away from the floors, allowing light into the home while not scorching your floors.
Fading is going to happen. Just as we age, so do your floors, and there’s nothing to stop that. However, protecting your floors from overexposure to UV rays is a great way to keep your floors looking fresh and new.
